I am a trainee Geography and History teacher based in Goldsworth Park offering tutor services KS1 to GCSE. I'm available to do in home tutoring in Woking, Bisley or Chobham and alternatively have a space available at my home in Goldsworth Park. I can tutor via Skype if necessary but I feel it's a better experience for students to be in person and suggest we try to do that. I'm happy to work towards the student's specific needs, whether it's improving general understanding, focusing on certain topics within a subject or preparation for final year exams or GCSEs. I cover geography and history tutoring as I have extensive knowledge in these areas, KS1 to GCSE. I also have a strong academic background in maths, English and science, having taken both secondary classes and university modules in all three areas and achieved either As or Bs. I can offer maths, English and science tutoring to students in KS1-KS3. I hold a bachelors degree in anthropology with history from Franklin Pierce University, having achieved a GPA of 3.7 (equivalent of a UK 1st class degree) in 2004.
How would you describe your teaching style?
My teaching style is adapted to the student. Typically I focus on what they are learning in school or areas that they have identified as needing improvement. We will go through these areas in detail, doing a mix of verbal and written work that I provide feedback on. This will include some quizzes and longer writing so we can be sure that as a result of the tutoring the student is achieving the level of learning they are aiming for.
What qualifications do you have?
Bachelors degree in Anthropology with History in 2004 from Franklin Pierce University, achieved GPA 3.7 (equivalent of UK 1st class degree). Working towards QTS and a PGCE in secondary education geography and history.
Tell us about your experience...
Prior to teaching I worked in management roles in university graduate recruitment in London for fifteen years. Because of this experience I have a strong knowledge of the UK employment market and what employers look for. In addition to tutoring sessions I can also offer advice sessions on careers and educational paths towards careers. I can also offer CV advice and practical job hunting and interviewing help.
What locations do you tutor in?
Anywhere in the borough of Woking, Bisley and Chobham. My home is in Goldsworth Park.
What is your personal message to students?
Education is vitally important! If you work hard in education, and especially in the subjects you are best at, you'll find that those subjects connect to careers that you are much more likely to enjoy doing. Geography is a fantastic subject because you learn so much about our world, in 2021 it can feel like we are more connected to each other than ever before. History is the greatest story on earth, and it's fascinating learning about what came before us as well as teaching us practical lessons about human nature and what we can expect in future. Maths are incredible, and if you have some patience and hard work anyone can find they can work out and understand maths beyond their current level of ability.
