I am a fully qualified teacher of Classics with nine years' experience teaching Classical Greek, Latin and Classical civilisation to pupils from Year 7 to Upper Sixth. I am experienced in meeting the needs of individuals in terms of SEN and preferred learning styles. My pupils typically achieve excellent results at GCSE and A level; I have tutored at least one sixth-former who has gone on to read a classical subject at Oxbridge every year for the last three years. Do get in touch to discuss what you are looking for: I can help with boosting current attainment, preparation for exams in autumn 2020, and Year 10 and 12 pupils keeping up with their studies in preparation for next year. Mature students are also very welcome!
How would you describe your teaching style?
I adapt to the needs of my students. I use resources that explain clearly and provide a clear record of learning. While verbal explanations are important, I tend to keep these clear and succinct rather than rely too much on teacher-talk. I use discussion in which tutor and student contribute equally to explore concepts or work through a passage.
What qualifications do you have?
I have a BA and MA from Oxford in Literae Humaniores (Classics) and a PGCE in Classics from Buckingham University.
Tell us about your experience...
I have taught in independent schools in Cambridgeshire to a high academic standard while meeting the needs of all students across a range of ability. I have taught Latin, Greek and Classical civilisation from key stage 3 up to the end of A level throughout my career. My students achieve very well at GCSE and A level, attaining their full potential through thorough preparation.
What locations do you tutor in?
I tutor in Ely and Cambridge and their environs. During the lockdown I tutor remotely.
