For seventeen years I had been employed as the Head of Design and Technology at Maidstone Grammar School, I left to live in East Sussex. I am both a highly experienced Head of Department and successful classroom teacher. I have successfully taught pupils across KS3, KS4 (GCSE), and KS5 (A level.) I have delivered and planned lessons across a broad range of subject areas using a wide variety of teaching methods and techniques. I have been judged as an outstanding classroom teacher for most of my performance appraisal lesson observations. For my most recent set of GCSE results at Maidstone Grammar School, where we were in the top 10% of progress made for the country; we achieved just under 60% for level 7 and above. I have also taught many pupils who have achieved excellent results in A level DT: Product Design. I have supported many pupils in the production of Design Portfolios for university application. I have a wide range of expertise in teaching both GCSE and A level; with both Edexcel and AQA exam boards. I look forward to supporting and helping your child in their learning and academic success in DT.

How would you describe your teaching style?

I aim to create a stimulating, respectful, and happy atmosphere in which students will achieve high levels of success in the subject. I look to capture the pupils’ imagination and for them to channel this into their work. I endeavour to develop the pupils’ creativity and intellectual curiosity within the area of Design and Technology. I tailor different teaching styles (and techniques) to meet the individual needs of the pupil. I have the skills (and proven experience) to identify key areas for academic improvement in both the theoretical and coursework/controlled assessment aspects of the subject. I am highly experienced in assessing work against exam board criteria, and in turn providing pertinent constructive feedback, in both the theory and coursework. I endeavour to make my teaching enjoyable and rewarding for pupils. I gain a great deal of satisfaction from helping them achieve academic success in the subject.

What qualifications do you have?

B.Ed (Hons) Design and Technology: Secondary.
