I have over 25 years teaching experience and throughout my time as both a class teacher, and as a Head Teacher, my strong belief has always been that children who are happy and comfortable learn best. Children who have a good attitude to learning, are resilient and reflective learners achieve well, and therefore building confidence and an enjoyment for learning underpins all my teaching. With a wide range of experience across Key Stage One and Two, including working with children with various Special Educational Needs and Able, Gifted and Talented children, I offer one-to-one tuition, including support with specific areas of difficulty, such as English, maths or handwriting; support with home schooling; 'catch-up' tuition and support for parents.
How would you describe your teaching style?
My strong belief is that children who are happy and comfortable learn best. There is much evidence that confirms children who have a good attitude to learning, are resilient and reflective learners achieve well, and therefore building confidence and an enjoyment for learning underpins all my teaching. Every lesson is individualised for the specific needs of that child.
What qualifications do you have?
I graduated with a BEd (Hons) in teaching and have continued to study, completing courses on dyslexia, phonics teaching, multi-sensory maths, ADHD, sensory processing, ASD, improving children's writing and dyscalculia. I am currently studying for the Level 5 Certificate in dyslexia; literacy, support and intervention with the British Dyslexia Association. I ensure I keep up to date with the latest research by attending conferences, webinars and exhibitions, so that I can support students to achieve their greatest potential.
Tell us about your experience...
I have been teaching now for over 20 enjoyable years, working in both the state and independent sectors in many different roles. These have included leading English (including phonics), humanities, safeguarding and assessment across the school, teaching in mainly Key Stage One and Lower Key Stage Two classes, supporting children one-to-one and in small 'booster' groups and most recently, as Joint Head Teacher.
What locations do you tutor in?
I tutor in Chinnor, a short drive from Thame, or can travel to you within a 10 minute radius. Online lessons also available via Zoom.
What is your personal message to students?
Learning one-to-one is a completely different experience from learning in class! I have time to find out how you learn best, build your confidence and plan lessons that are just for you.
