As well as academic qualifications (MSc in Molecular Medicine, BSc in Biochemistry) I have ten years' real life experience working in the life science industry in the UK and overseas. I continue to work in this field on a freelance basis, and also work as a tutor as I love the challenge of bringing the best out of young learners and inspiring them to have confidence. This combination of academic qualifications and real life industry and public health experience, along with a passion for the life sciences allows me to motivate pupils by teaching in an engaging style, using real life examples to bring the subjects to life as much as possible. I work with students thoroughly, on all areas of the curriculum, focusing especially on any areas that the student finds particularly challenging. I also teach students exam technique where necessary, to help them approach exams and assessments as well prepared, confidently and calmly as possible.

How would you describe your teaching style?

My aim is to inspire confidence in every learner in their ability to understand, grasp and learn the key concepts and ideas of their subject, and also to to perform to the best of their abilities in tests and exams. To do that, I tailor my style to each student, taking care to understand their strengths and weaknesses within the subject, and then focussing on working together to build confidence in those areas that need it most. Ultimately I aim to break down subjects and their ideas in a way that students can get to grips with them, then develop their understanding and confidence further by using examples, working through typical exam questions, and applying the ideas to real life scenarios.

What qualifications do you have?

I have a Master's degree in Molecular Medicine (from Brunel University), and a Bachelor's degree in Biochemistry (from the University of Leeds). I have also worked in the life science industry for over ten years.

Tell us about your experience...

I have three months' full time experience training to be a secondary school teacher, including; planning and delivering lessons, creating and sourcing teaching resources, with constant assessment, monitoring and feedback from mentors and senior teachers. From working in biopharmaceuticals I also have three years' experience training clinical research professionals in Japan on complex international regulatory requirements and clinical operations procedures for carrying out global clinical trials. This involved careful planning and consideration of content and methods of training, as well as delivery in an engaging manner.
