I have been teaching since 1990, and have a track record of helping students to achieve their target grades. My teaching experience allows me to structure targeted study plans for individuals wishing to improve weak areas of learning, presenting it understandably. I prefer to tutor in your home, if you wish face to face when restrictions lift, and offer online tutoring at the moment through internet platforms, should you prefer to maintain that instead. I taught French for 17 years, overlapping Maths teaching as well for the past 17 years. I have a Bachelor of Education in French and Maths, with a minor in SEND and a degree in Religious Studies. I am an upper level classroom teacher at the moment, have been 2nd in Dept for several years as well as being a previous Head of Maths. I have taught students from ages 8 to 16, in both Canada and England, and have when needed used my TESOL course to assist my lesson teaching. I mark exam papers for Edexcel exam board, having many years experience marking papers according to mark schemes. This helps me to explain to students how to retain method marks when being tested.

How would you describe your teaching style?

My style is very unique to me, as I have been tutoring and assisting other students in their education nearly all of my life, even when I was a student myself. I can read a student's misconceptions by seeing their working out and answers, and utilise this to improve their comprehension of a concept much more quickly. I use a variety of styles - depending on what a student's needs are - including games, discussion, problem solving, puzzles, low risk quizzing and structured instruction times. I am friendly, and do my utmost to set a learner at ease, as stress can interfere with their grasp in lessons - along with this, I prefer to teach in your home, so that the student feels the most comfortable in a familiar environment.

What qualifications do you have?

I have a Bachelor of Education in French and Maths, Grade 1 overall, with a minor in SEND and a second degree in Religious Studies at Grade 1. I qualified in Canada, and re-qualified in England when I moved here in 1996, and have been very successfully teaching here for the past 20 years.

Tell us about your experience...

I taught French for 17 years, overlapping Maths teaching as well for the past 17 years. I am an upper level classroom teacher at the moment, having been 2nd in Dept for several years as well as being a previous Head of Maths. I have taught students from ages 8 to 16, in both Canada and England, and have when needed used my TESOL course to assist my lesson teaching. I currently mark exam papers for Edexcel exam board, having many years experience marking papers according to mark schemes. This helps me to explain to students how to retain method marks when being tested, and what the most common errors are made by students. I have 4 children of my own, and am aware of the difficulties in managing a work-life while balancing the educational needs of my own children - having this experience gives me an insight on how to help parents to help their own children where possible, while also maintaining flexibility in my tutoring role with regards to family needs.

What locations do you tutor in?

Congleton Cheshire, Wem Shropshire, Market Drayton, Stone, Stoke-on-Trent, Newcastle under Lyme, Alsager, Endon, Whitchurch, Crewe, Stafford, Cheadle

What is your personal message to students?

Never limit your abilities to what others think of you - they are seldom correct, and base their perceptions of you on their own abilities. Aim as high as possible, for the higher you aim, the more you achieve in life. Be willing to try, to fail, and to try again, always questioning WHY about any concept you are learning, for the more you understand why, the more you will be able to do it yourself, and the longer you will remember it.
