I am an enthusiastic and experienced Piano tutor based in Central London. I provide tuition for complete beginners through to Grade 5, and for all ages. I am particularly focused on the early stages of piano learning; for children and adults just starting out, or for those who are coming back to the instrument in later in life. I am a classically trained pianist, having passed ABRSM Grade 8 piano and am currently working towards the DipABRSM in Piano Performance. I also have an A-Level in Music, and have passed Grade 8 Music Theory. In addition to this, I have a BSc (Hons) in Physics from Imperial College London, where I was an active member of many music societies and regular performer in concerts. I also have Grade 8 flute & Organ, and have a wealth of performing experience both as a Piano Soloist, and in Orchestras (which I have toured with internationally), Concert Bands and Chamber Ensembles. I have worked with children and adults in the London area for the past few years, and am familiar with the repertoire for ABRSM Graded exams. Whether it be learning to read music for the first time, and following the more structured path of taking exams, or learning the chord progressions to you're favorite pop song, I have experience in both of these styles of learning. My aim is to make lessons fun and enjoyable, and give students the skills, knowledge and confidence to get the most out of their piano playing. I am able to offer lessons either in a central London piano studio, or in your home. For the time being, lessons are only available on the weekend, please enquirer for availability.
How would you describe your teaching style?
My teaching style is relaxed and fun, but with a focus on good technique and understanding of the music. I will start each lesson with a series of finger exercises, to build and maintain finger strength, which is important for all levels of piano playing. Each lesson will also have an element of music theory, so students are aware of the theory behind what they are playing, whether it be learning a new key signature or a learning about the history of the music they are playing. I am comfortable teaching a variety of styles, and can adapt my teaching to whatever the student wishes to learn. If the student wants to pursue the graded exams, I am familiar with the ABRSM repertoire, and we can focus lessons around these requriements (including learning scales, sight reading and aural tests). If the student wishes to take a more relaxed approach and learn some of their favourite pop music, for example, we can focus on that.
