I have 8 years of experience working as a primary school teacher in both the private and state sector. I am able to tutor all subjects on the British primary curriculum, and have experience preparing children for the 7+, 8+ and 11+ entrance exams. I also have 4 years experience as a private tutor, in which I mostly tutored maths and English. I can provide references from families I have tutored for previously if required. Having taught both lessons and tutoring sessions online since the pandemic began I am very familiar with using Zoom to recreate the face to face experience of tutoring in person. I always strive to make sessions fun, motivating and engaging, and to promote a love of learning in my tutees. I love to watch the children grow in confidence and find out what inspires and interests them.

Teaching has been my ambition since I came to the UK at 10 years old, after my mother, who was my greatest teacher passed away. Growing up in Jamaica, my educational experiences were very different from what most children experience in the UK. I am very fortunate to have gone through both Jamaican and English educational institutions. In the Caribbean, it is instilled in you from a very young age that education is very important for you to achieve in life in order to survive, but children are not inspired to learn. When I came to the UK and attended school here, I experienced a different type of teaching, where children could be more expressive, and teachers worked with me on my strengths thus building my confidence, self-esteem, and love of learning. For me, teaching is an extremely rewarding and fulfilling job. It would provide me with the opportunity to have a positive influence on pupils, imparting to them the enthusiasm and passion for learning, excitement for new discovery and help them to develop their ability to be curious and inquisitive learners. I want to be able to make a real difference in the lives of all children. However, my research for one of my units at University has highlighted that ‘black boys’ sometimes find themselves at a disadvantage in the education system for a number of reasons. As a ‘black male’ teacher I see myself as a positive role model and beacon for education. Recently, there has been a lot of media courage in the capital and young black males are either portrayed as the victims or perpetrators of crime. Therefore, as a black male teacher, I believe working in an inner-city primary school will give me the perfect opportunity to inspire, motivate and challenge young black boys so that they can set positive goals for themselves and reach their full potential. I am a skilled communicator with a positive attitude, which has enabled me to build a good rapport with parents and careers, and strong working relationships with other staff. I am truly passionate about inclusion and promoting diversity in the classroom as I believe it gives children a chance to think differently, thus preparing them for the real world. Since fully qualifying as a Primary school teacher two years ago, I have spent the last two academic years teaching in year 4. I have gained a considerable amount of experience teaching the higher and middle ability steam and ensured that I take full responsibility for the attainment and progress pupils learning. I have planned, delivered, and evaluated engaging lessons. I always make it my utmost priority to ensure that lessons inspire, challenge, and motivate pupils to achieve their full potential. I have worked closely with my year group partners to maintain professionalism and ensure continuity across the year group. I have developed the ability to establish good relationships with parents, as I believe children must continue learning at home.
I am a very dedicated and determined teacher who believes in spending time with pupils to help them understand the subjects they are learning. I am qualified, friendly and experienced language tutor dedicated to student learning. I am confident teaching both one-on-one and in groups. I feel that I am able to connect with pupils through my friendly and personable nature. I love teaching and have the determination to provide the best possible education to my students. I am flexible, patient, and understanding. I am extremely keen to explore creativity within the curriculum, and am committed to high expectation and achievement whilst looking to make learning more accessible and fun. I am keen to be assigned to a position that will help me build up on my skills and grow as a professional in order to make me the best teacher that I am able to be.

i am a Newly Qualified Primary School Teacher having completed a BA (Hons) Primary Mathematics Education with QTS at Edge Hill University Graduate. I have experience of teaching across both Key Stage 1 and 2. I also have experience delivering phonics sessions and preparing Year 1 pupils for the phonics test. I also have successful experience preparing Year 2 and Year 6 pupils for their SATs. I am confident teaching any area of the primary curriculum with a particular specialism in maths. I’m also passionate about using technology to enhance the teaching and learning process and if possible would place this at the heart of my teaching. Prior to the tutoring commencing, I believe it is important to talk with the child to find out what makes them tick and from there develop a way of learning that suits them and enables us to achieve the best outcomes. I’m happy to travel and find a time that suits both parties but most importantly find a time where that suits the individual.
