Online, fun, efficient, cut-the-crap, someone who gets it
£25.00-30.00Academic tutorThe quality and efficiency of a tutor really varies a lot. It's abysmal. And I do the work. Before, during and after the session itself. I would prefer 1h with me than 4h with the average tutor out there. One must go from what the student already is, instead of imposing just some industrial fast-food stamp-like attitude. One must create fields of analogies, trial and error, use humor, make the student proactive, illustrate exuberantly, show what's the use of it, use memory tricks, use the most out of IT technologies, play with models, play with something! (Have you ever notice that children don't need to be told to learn some smartphone game and nonetheless without going through any pain whatsoever they come out true experts on that subject matter?) We are all grown up children. The test is not difficult: 1 week with me and we see what the student thinks.

Anna J

I have a first-class degree in Philosophy from the University of Birmingham and I am currently studying for an MA. My style of tutoring involves, firstly, identifying the specific issues that a student is having with a subject as well as their individual learning style. Then, setting up an action plan, involving short term goals, to help them back on track in a structured and clear way. My goal is to take students from confusion to confidence! I am fully familiarised with the curriculums, typical exam questions, and mark schemes for all the subjects on my profile.

Chris L
Experienced English and History Tutor in Glasgow West End
£20.00Academic tutorI'm a friendly and experienced tutor, with specialisms in English and the humanities more generally. I recently completed my PhD in English and Comparative Literature at Goldsmiths, University of London, where I have taught undergraduate students for four years. My academic background is varied, with a First Class Honours degree in English Literature from the University of Glasgow and an MA with Distinction in Philosophy from Kingston University. As a passionate tutor, I'm interested in thinking about the various ways students learn, and in considering how my work can meet different needs. With this in mind, I undertook a two-year Postgraduate Certificate (PG Cert) in Learning and Teaching in Higher Education, which I completed in 2018. I want all students to fulfil their potential and to exceed their own expectations. I do this by taking time to find how individual students work best, understanding what interests and inspires them, and preparing tutorials that will not only facilitate their active participation but also encourage them to read and research beyond their curriculum. I have an acute sensitivity to the needs and requirements of individual learners and I enjoy adapting my tutorials in order to ensure that every student can thrive.

John B
GCSE, A Level Philosophy, History, Politics, Business Management, Media Studies tutor in Alton, Hampshire
£29.00-49.00Academic tutorI studied Philosophy & History at Southampton University and qualified with first class honours whilst competing around the world for the British Sailing Team. Balancing the two forced me to create innovative ways to use my study time most efficiently. I now run a successful social media marketing business which in the last year has spent £15,000 on Facebook adverts. I run workshops for local businesses on Instagram marketing. For over 10 years I have enjoyed teaching dinghy sailors of all abilities to numerous successes. As a professional marketer I can't understand why most teachers don't use psychology to make their teaching more effective and engaging. Getting a student engaged in their subject is most of the battle and it's always possible. But what makes learning engaging depends on the student's personality & learning type. Together we will quickly discover this and formulate a way of teaching and a plan of action that will teach the subject in the most effective way. I will teach every student study skills that are personalised to them and make clever use of their time. Due to the nature of my job I am relatively flexible but as I am in high demand I can only teach a total of 10 hours a week.
