Candace C
£30.00-45.00Academic tutor
As a teacher I have always placed an emphasis on 21st century skills and would integrate high levels of technology in my classrooms. Teaching with awareness of an increasing digital world has prepared me for our current climate and I am confident in delivering online lessons that are engaging, creative and challenging, supporting the learning of my students. Currently I am tutoring primary school aged students - helping guide thinking of coursework and supporting mastery of skills that is required of them in class. I have over 7 years of classroom teaching experience, from Reception to Year 6. Before the pandemic I spent some time travelling, wanting to maintain my connection with teaching, I began teaching English online. The training that I received through the company, VIPKid, built my toolset in using props, total physical response and modelling online. Teaching with VIPKid for one year I had over 50 ESL students, this practical experience helped me to overcome barriers and realize the advantages of online learning. During the initial phase of the pandemic and with the onset of school closures I was working for an educational NGO who was tasked with tutoring students who were struggling to pass their finals. Given that teachers could not meet with students in person I developed an online learning program for students from 8 different schools. I created learning materials and lessons for 30 other tutors and taught the lessons myself to 20 different students online. I trained the other tutors on how to use Google Education and to utilize other online resources to make interactive online lessons. Through my lessons I used google classroom (+ slides, docs, hangouts, calendar), Jamboard, Flipgrid, Khan Academy, Kahoots, TES, Literacy Shed, Brainpop, Dojo, youtube, etc to support my lessons. My online lessons always include summative feedback, whether it was direct feedback to parents or a quiz that the students would do after the lesson to demonstrate new understandings of content. Some feedback from parents- “Candace would go above and beyond to support the learning needs of our child. The lessons were always clear, upbeat and supportive.” “Lessons are well organized, structured and the teacher uses lots of visuals to support lessons.” "Candace is a compassionate teacher and helped our daughter graduate through her persistence, constant encouragement and responsive teaching methods."
