I am a recent graduate of the Royal College of Music in London, where I obtained my Artist Diploma, Masters and Bachelor degrees. I started learning the violin and piano at age 6, and moved to the UK at age 8. I attended the Yehudi Menuhin School-a specialist music school for young musicians- since the age of 10, under the tutelage of Professor Natasha Boyarsky. With her guidance, I got accepted into the Royal College of Music with a full scholarship, and have recently completed my studies with Professor Radu Blidar. I perform as a soloist, and as a chamber and orchestral musician in London: I currently work at the BBC Symphony, Royal Scottish National Orchestra and Wales National Opera orchestras. I have been private teaching since 2012, and am very hard working and committed as a tutor- I have helped my students pass their various exams with 100% success rate, with the majority of them getting top marks and distinctions. I hope to share wonderful music with you! *Due to the coronavirus pandemic, I am currently only offering online tutoring via Skype or Facetime. Please get in touch via email.

I am an experienced piano teacher, teaching from beginner to advanced level. I perform regularly as a soloist and chamber musician and have won many prizes in both national and international piano competitions. I have also completed a PhD at Manchester University, specializing in Beethoven. My book on this subject will appear later this year, and it will be titled 'Beethoven's Dedications: Stories behind the Tributes'. My first album, dedicated entirely to Beethoven piano sonatas, is available on all online streaming platforms such as iTunes, Spotify, Amazon Music and Youtube. Just type 'Artur Pereira Beethoven' and you will be able to listen to it. My second recording, featuring Beethoven's 'Appassionata' piano sonata and piano music by Portuguese composer Luiz Costa, will become available this summer. Look out for it.

Fun, energy and passion are the fundamentals of my teaching, and over 22 years of experience has enabled me to finely tune this recipe for successful and enjoyable learning. My lessons are far from formulaic, but instead are based on getting the best out of each individual and their natural learning style. I have a first class BMus Honours degree and an A* in Music A-Level. I specialized in Jazz performance in America in my final year of my degree and also have a wealth of experience performing Jazz; playing lead saxophone in several jazz bands, and leading my own jazz trio on piano. Additionally, I have a strong classical music background. I hold an ABRSM Diploma in Piano Performance, as well as a distinction in grade 8 piano, saxophone and singing. I currently run a 16-strong vocal group who meet weekly, and I am part of a 3-piece, 3-part-vocal-harmony band locally. I live by the sea in beautiful Cornwall where I work in primary and secondary schools, both private and state. I teach classroom and instrumental music to all levels and abilities. I am a successful and effective Teacher with 30+ years experience. One of my key strengths, gained from many years teaching in classrooms and one-to-one, is knowing how to explain mathematical concepts and ideas in a variety of ways that allow a student to overcome misunderstandings or difficulties. I seek to teach Maths topics so they have real-life context and I always look to make connections between topics so they are not learned in an isolated manner. I find this helps my students gain in confidence and mastery and ultimately make meaningful progress leading to improved achievement in exams.

I have extensive experience teaching KS3, GCSE and A Level English and KS3 Drama. I previously taught the GCSE resits for six years. Over this period, I acquired a significant insight into the GCSEs and A Level programmes. I worked heavily with GCSE Level 3 students, supporting them to achieve Level 4 - 8. I have witnessed some incredible improvements in my students and was able to build one students confidence so they shot from Level 2 to a working Level 7 in a year of tuition. My A Level students gained a greater insight into the texts they studied because of my studies of Literature and Language at A level. I can help you or someone you know by scaffolding their knowledge of English - whatever area they may want help with. I have a strong background in poetry and creative writing. In particular, I can help develop skills required for GCSEs and A Level such as: CORE READING SKILLS: - Critical thinking and inference (how to interpret a text and words in particular) - Understanding language and structural features (both of which are integral to showing a knowledge of how texts work) - Deconstructing unseen texts (a key skill that the Language papers require) - Comparing/contrasting ideas in texts (the literature and language papers now put a heavy emphasis on this skill) CORE WRITING SKILLS: - PEA/PEE paragraphs (this connects with ESSAY writing as well) - Descri ptive writing - Non-fiction writing I can additionally offer more advanced skills such as: READING: - Advanced/sophisticated language and structural feature spotting - Applying context to literature (especially Victorian for the likes of `A Christmas Carol` and `Jekyll & Hyde`) WRITING: - Sophisticated and effective development of vocabulary (fiction and non-fiction) - Clever use of structural features to construct a story or descri ptive piece of writing I have been singing and playing the piano for over a decade and frequently accompany and musically direct my choir, individuals, and shows. I`ve recently obtained Grade 8 Music Theory and can offer lessons on piano/singing performance and technique, composition, improvisation and music theory.

Maximise Your Potential with Traditional Tutoring. Based in SW19, I teach near Wimbledon Park on weekends and travel between Wimbledon and Kensington/Mayfair on weekdays or teach on line. I specialise in preparation for top school applications, Common Entrance and Scholarship exams. I have prepared students for 7+, 8+, 11+, 11+ and 13+ pre-tests and exams who were offered places at St. Paul's, Harrow, Eton, Westminster School [The Great School] (Queen's Scholarship) and Winchester College (Scholarship), KCS, Epsom, Dulwich, and University College School (UCS), and many other schools. While my track record speaks for itself, I don't guarantee success, but I do guarantee sound improvement in reasoning, composition, comprehension, and communication skills that will stand students in good stead through their secondary school educational journeys and in challenging situations such as Oxbridge Interviews, should their academic paths take them in that direction. My approach is grounded in a traditionally informed approach to education, inspired by the 'lost tools of learning' of the classical Trivium of Logic, Grammar, and Rhetoric, and by the disciplined exercises that are part of oral storytelling traditions.
