£20.00-30.00Academic tutor

I received my Bachelor of Arts from Boğaziçi University, Istanbul (the most prestigious university in Turkey) in Psychological Counseling and Guidance. I completed my bachelor 1 year earlier than the normal duration. During my undergraduate, I tutored Arabic and Mathematics to people from different backgrounds, from teachers to students. Since 2016, I've been working as a research assistant in psychology at Goldsmith University and University College London. I have also experience in counseling psychology with children at primary and secondary schools. I received my Masters of Arts in psychology from The New School in the United States. I worked as a research assistant at Baby Lab at The New School in New York. I can teach Modern Standard Arabic (speaking, reading, writing skills), Classical Arabic, reading Qur'an (by the way just fusha, not amiyya/dialects). Also, in my high school, my area was intensively quantitative so I can rely on my math background. I am currently tutoring Maths GCS, English and Arabic, Turkish, and Psychology. I am an energetic and cheerful tutor. Also I get on well with children. I have students from different ages such as 4-year-old, 9-year-old, 11-year old, and adults between 20 and 30. Besides, I'm doing Psychological Counseling professionally. Our sessions take fifty minutes. If you need any of them, you can message me.

Candace C

£30.00-45.00Academic tutor

As a teacher I have always placed an emphasis on 21st century skills and would integrate high levels of technology in my classrooms. Teaching with awareness of an increasing digital world has prepared me for our current climate and I am confident in delivering online lessons that are engaging, creative and challenging, supporting the learning of my students. Currently I am tutoring primary school aged students - helping guide thinking of coursework and supporting mastery of skills that is required of them in class. I have over 7 years of classroom teaching experience, from Reception to Year 6. Before the pandemic I spent some time travelling, wanting to maintain my connection with teaching, I began teaching English online. The training that I received through the company, VIPKid, built my toolset in using props, total physical response and modelling online. Teaching with VIPKid for one year I had over 50 ESL students, this practical experience helped me to overcome barriers and realize the advantages of online learning. During the initial phase of the pandemic and with the onset of school closures I was working for an educational NGO who was tasked with tutoring students who were struggling to pass their finals. Given that teachers could not meet with students in person I developed an online learning program for students from 8 different schools. I created learning materials and lessons for 30 other tutors and taught the lessons myself to 20 different students online. I trained the other tutors on how to use Google Education and to utilize other online resources to make interactive online lessons. Through my lessons I used google classroom (+ slides, docs, hangouts, calendar), Jamboard, Flipgrid, Khan Academy, Kahoots, TES, Literacy Shed, Brainpop, Dojo, youtube, etc to support my lessons. My online lessons always include summative feedback, whether it was direct feedback to parents or a quiz that the students would do after the lesson to demonstrate new understandings of content. Some feedback from parents- “Candace would go above and beyond to support the learning needs of our child. The lessons were always clear, upbeat and supportive.” “Lessons are well organized, structured and the teacher uses lots of visuals to support lessons.” "Candace is a compassionate teacher and helped our daughter graduate through her persistence, constant encouragement and responsive teaching methods."

Catherine C

KS2 11 Plus tutor in London, London

£55.00-0.00Academic tutor

I am a Deputy Head (Academic) who specialises in Primary Education. My lessons are based in problem solving and building self-confidence. I offer three services: English and Maths (£55 per session) English is structured around understanding and then applying knowledge of syntax, orthography and effective language choices. I will help the child to use this knowledge to improve their written work. Maths is structured around a topic. I will adjust the focus according to the individual child’s needs e.g. building confidence, filling particular gaps or answering mathematical reasoning questions. 11 Plus (£60 per session) I will assess the pupil’s ability against the requirements of their preferred schools’ entrance exam, then build a medium-term plan which caters for their needs. This usually involves a mixture of English, maths, reasoning and interview practise. Home Learning (£250 per week) The pupil logins to my virtual classroom (Zoom) for one hour each morning for a check-in, live teaching and setting the activities for the day. Further live sessions may be necessary to ensure continued engagement. The week is structured by five days of learning activities covering all National Curriculum subjects except Music and MFL. An emphasis is placed on English, maths and ICT.

Ceris O

KS3/GCSE/A-level English tutor in Birmingham, Midlands (West)

£9.00-0.00Academic tutor

I'm a medical student in the West Midlands, offering tutoring in GCSE sciences, English Lang, Lit and Sociology. I also offer A-level tutoring in Biology and English Lit. I enjoy medicine as it is a great interface of the sciences (physiology, histology etc) and the humanities (public health and prevention, community based medicine etc), it also allows for good career satisfaction as you are able to help patients- much like a tutor is able to help students. I would help my students improve by letting them select a specific topic they feel less comfortable with before the session and then reviewing it in the session, making sure to clarify their understanding as we go. I would then give them a set of questions/tasks at the end of the session to do in their free time. If they feel assured in answering the questions/completing the tasks and the answers are correct then we won't have another session reviewing them. If they don't then we will. Requests for the specific topic would be best sent before the session so I can prepare questions/tasks though I understand a specific topic wouldn't always come to mind. I find that setting these questions and tasks is good as it makes sure the understanding is retained and that it can be reinforced if it is not.

Charlotte K

GCSE Maths tutor in Didsbury, North West

£20.00-35.00Academic tutor

I am an experienced maths teacher and I was Head of Maths for two years at a large international school in Shanghai. I have taught a range of qualifications and my pupils (including my tutees) have achieved fantastic results I would describe myself as hard working, adaptable, friendly, organised and dedicated to the learning of my pupils. I decided to pursue a career as a Maths teacher after the fantastic experience I had teaching as a volunteer in Ghana and Cambodia in 2012, shortly after leaving university. Mathematics is a subject I love and excelled at in school, so I was motivated to inspire students to enjoy Maths, a subject that is often negatively perceived. I believe the skills that are embodied in Mathematics, such as logical thinking and problem solving, are just as important as the content. Every child is different and so the relationship you form with pupils should be different. I enjoy using activities in my classes that promote discussion and discovery. I aim to build pupil`s confidence by viewing maths as building blocks. Often pupil`s struggle because the prior knowledge is not understood well enough to move to the next step.

What Makes a Good Online Maths Tutor?

A good online maths tutor will have a solid understanding of the GCSE and A Level maths syllabus. An experienced tutor will be able to provide references for previous students and have a proven track record of helping students pass maths exams.

Although there is no official tutoring accreditation for online maths tutors in the UK, most are educated to at least degree level. How qualified an online maths tutor needs to be is up for the student and parent to decide. Some students may prefer to work with an experienced tutor who also holds a teaching qualification, whereas others may work better with recent maths graduates.

Some of the qualities that make a good online maths tutor, include patience and a clear communication style. One of the biggest benefits of tutoring is having a personalised learning approach and a good tutor will put the time and effort in to plan lessons and record progress.

How to Choose an Online Maths Tutor?

When choosing an online maths tutor, the first thing to do is to draw up your criteria. What do you consider to be most important? An online maths tutor with strong academic qualifications? One with a good track record of A Plus students? Or how about an online maths tutor with good interpersonal skills? Once you know what you’re looking for, you can create a shortlist and contact each one to arrange an initial meeting.

It’s also important to check whether or not your shortlist of online maths tutors have a DBS certificate. Although there’s no legal requirement to have a background check to tutor in the UK, those who are serious about the profession will have one.
