Aidin V

A-Level Chemistry tutor in Leeds, York and Humberside

£30.00-50.00Academic tutor

I have over 10 years of teaching experience and so I bring a wealth of knowledge and skills that I have developed over time. I teach Biology, Physics and Maths with a special interest in Chemistry. You can teach someone the theory of science but introducing real life applications of that theory brings about an inquisitiveness that motivate a student to dig deeper and learn further. This is just one of many techniques I try to do. I have found the best students to be those who are motivated and have a desire to learn and so my priority is to try to bring that out in each student as learning will no longer be against the grain and more efficient. To this end I have had young students ask themselves for more lessons – through the desire to learn more. My background is Chemistry and Chemical Engineering which I have studied through 2 Masters degree and achieved top of class twice. I am now working towards my third degree in Medicine as a graduate. As a result, I have breadth and depth of science especially with Chemistry. I have worked my way through a life coaching course as well.

Andrew G

A Level Maths tutor in Bristol, South West

£30.00-50.00Academic tutor

Given the recent decision to cancel GCSE exams, I think it is an ideal time to get ahead and start preparing for A-levels. As the step-up in difficulty and return to school could be very difficult, I believe tutoring will be able to make the transition easier. I have been tutoring individuals and groups for over 6 years as both paid and voluntary work. I love to teach Maths and Physics to children of all ages and abilities, sculpting my lessons around the individuals' needs. I have always found engaging with my pupils easy. Being young, and having recently been in education, helps me to understand any problems my students encounter and find intuitive ways to help them understand the topic. When tutoring I encourage an understanding of base principles in order to build confidence and problem-solving skills. I like to set my pupils short homework worksheets to highlight any difficulties and to encourage comfort with a wide variety of problems. This will set them up to excel in future education and exams. I can be very flexible around your schedule and please feel free to message me with any enquires.

Arjun B

A level Maths, GCSE Maths tutor in London, London

£25.00-32.00Academic tutor

Hello! My name is Arjun, I recently graduated from the London School of Economics with a BSc in Mathematics and Economics. I’ve recently started a graduate job in the City. I left secondary school with 6 A*s and 5 As in my GCSEs & headed to Cambridge to study for my A levels. I left the Hills Road Sixth Form College in 2017 with A*AA in Mathematics, Further Mathematics and Economics respectively. Throughout my time at Hills Road & the LSE, I’ve been in teaching & mentorship roles. My first was as an assistant for year 12s who were struggling with AS Maths. I helped numerous students succeed in their studies & indeed this is where I developed an interest in teaching. I continued this throughout my A levels, tutoring GCSE students in my hometown & A level students in my sixth form college. After moving to London for university, I became a designated ambassador for the Department of Mathematics. Through this role, I helped promote our degree and department at open days, speaking with A level students intending to apply to the LSE and spoke with parents about any concerns they had. During my second and final years, I continued to nurture my growing interest in teaching and mentorship, helping younger students with their first and second year modules. I also really enjoy helping students and young professionals write CV and cover letters for work experience, internship and job applications. Please let me know if these services would be of interest! It would be a great shame to lose the skills I have so carefully honed during my academic career. This is why I wish to become a GCSE and A level Maths tutor, as well as a CV and cover letter consultant. As shown by my previous experience, I’ve grown a deep interest in helping younger mathematicians thrive and flourish. If interested in how I could help you or your child blossom, please do get in touch. Thank you!

Ben H

GCSE / A-level Biology tutor in Elland, York and Humberside

£35.00Academic tutor

Hi all, I`m Ben a 32 year old full time private tutor. I`ve been working as a private tutor now for 10 years and they have flown by! Tutoring is not just a job to me it`s a passion. Over that time I`ve taught hundreds of students at all levels from the surrounding schools and colleges. I`m a laid back guy who`s friendly and easy to talk to, I pride myself in my interpersonal skills as well as my academic knowledge I believe both are equally important for tutors to have. I graduated from Kings College Cambridge University in June `08 with a B.A hons in Natural Sciences, having attended the Brooksbank school and 6th form where I achieved 3 A`s and 2 B`s at A-level in Maths, Physics, Biology, Chemistry and General Studies. I have been employed by Calderdale Council since July `08 working with children and young people in various roles. I started tutoring as a hobby as it has always given me great satisfaction and enjoyment as well as keeping me in touch with subject that I intend to get back into one day. In June `10 I left my post with Calderdale Council and now work full time as a tutor doing a job I adore. Through my experience I have found that students learn much better when they are relaxed and comfortable. This has led me to adopt a laid back and informal approach to ensure that the learning environment maximises the tutees ability to learn. I understand that everyone has individual needs and learns differently and because of this I am very adaptable in the way I teach. I focus my lessons on two main areas: the first involves making sure the tutee has a firm understanding of the topic and all the principles that are involved within it removing any misconceptions that would hamper further progress. The second area works on the tutees technique working with them to ensure they can understand, digest and answer questions. Due to my passion for teaching it gives me the drive to go the extra mile to make sure that all my students fulfill their aspirations. I have helped my previous students with University applications, coursework, interviews, CV`s and job applications. Due to working full time as a tutor now I am able to offer constant support for all my tutees so I am able to help whenever they need it.

Calum O

GCSE, A Level, A2 Level Chemistry, Maths Physics tutor in Poynton, Cheshire

£10.00-25.00Academic tutor

I am capable of teaching in a range of styles, however I prefer (and recommend) teaching a more in depth understanding of the material taught on the course. I have always had an interest for the more abstract areas of mathematics and physics, and find the focus in schools all too often fails to capture the significance and intuitiveness of the materials taught. Though it saves time in school not to explore the materials this way, this understanding is key in students who gain the highest grades - think how more effortless it is looking down at the landscape from above, than finding your way through the ideas at ground level. It's a little extra work, but having a perspective of course topics in a more advanced context lessens reliance on memorisation. In reality, practice and hard work from the tutee is always necessary - working through problems is indispensable with or without supervision. To this end, most of my tutor sessions structure around worked examples, but rapidly segue into deeper concepts as they arise; having the tutees explain their understanding of specific problems is an efficient way to pinpoint areas that need deep, encouraged thought on the part of the student.

What Makes a Good Online Maths Tutor?

A good online maths tutor will have a solid understanding of the GCSE and A Level maths syllabus. An experienced tutor will be able to provide references for previous students and have a proven track record of helping students pass maths exams.

Although there is no official tutoring accreditation for online maths tutors in the UK, most are educated to at least degree level. How qualified an online maths tutor needs to be is up for the student and parent to decide. Some students may prefer to work with an experienced tutor who also holds a teaching qualification, whereas others may work better with recent maths graduates.

Some of the qualities that make a good online maths tutor, include patience and a clear communication style. One of the biggest benefits of tutoring is having a personalised learning approach and a good tutor will put the time and effort in to plan lessons and record progress.

How to Choose an Online Maths Tutor?

When choosing an online maths tutor, the first thing to do is to draw up your criteria. What do you consider to be most important? An online maths tutor with strong academic qualifications? One with a good track record of A Plus students? Or how about an online maths tutor with good interpersonal skills? Once you know what you’re looking for, you can create a shortlist and contact each one to arrange an initial meeting.

It’s also important to check whether or not your shortlist of online maths tutors have a DBS certificate. Although there’s no legal requirement to have a background check to tutor in the UK, those who are serious about the profession will have one.
