Ciao! I'm Esmond. I'm a writer, composer, director and artist, and prizewinning History finalist at the University of Oxford, with experience of a broad range of learning environments and teaching styles, and substantial industry experience in music and the creative arts. Deeply passionate about my subjects, I'm dedicated to each of my students and enthusiastic about sharing the joy of learning with them. I have extensive knowledge across the Arts and Humanities, especially in history, music, art and literature. I tutor History, Music, History of Art and Latin to A-Level and IB, and English, Design and Technology (Graphic Design route) and Maths to GCSE/IGCSE. I also provide mentoring, including guidance on personal statements, submitted work, admissions tests and interviews, for students applying to study History and related subjects at both Oxbridge and other universities. More broadly, I work with students at all levels to develop essay writing, research, problem-solving and study skills. Taking a student-centred approach, I place emphasis on developing a deep-seated intrinsic passion for learning in my students and on encouraging them to think independently, critically and originally.

For seventeen years I had been employed as the Head of Design and Technology at Maidstone Grammar School, I left to live in East Sussex. I am both a highly experienced Head of Department and successful classroom teacher. I have successfully taught pupils across KS3, KS4 (GCSE), and KS5 (A level.) I have delivered and planned lessons across a broad range of subject areas using a wide variety of teaching methods and techniques. I have been judged as an outstanding classroom teacher for most of my performance appraisal lesson observations. For my most recent set of GCSE results at Maidstone Grammar School, where we were in the top 10% of progress made for the country; we achieved just under 60% for level 7 and above. I have also taught many pupils who have achieved excellent results in A level DT: Product Design. I have supported many pupils in the production of Design Portfolios for university application. I have a wide range of expertise in teaching both GCSE and A level; with both Edexcel and AQA exam boards. I look forward to supporting and helping your child in their learning and academic success in DT.

I am currently completing my Masters degree in Musicology at King’s College London. I also studied my BMus at King’s between 2017 and 2019. I have a broad knowledge base having studied Maths, Physics and Design Technology at A-level before going on to peruse Music degrees. During my degrees, I have taken modules in History, French and English as well as more general music theory. I grew up in Leicester and took lessons in piano, singing and saxophone. After moving to London, I continued my saxophone study at the Royal Academy of Music. I have always enjoyed combining teaching with my own learning and have worked with pupils over a broad age spectrum.

I am Head of Computer Science and DT in Bristol. I have been teaching for 16 years and head of department for 12 years in two schools. I am also Computing at School Bristol Community Leader. My approach is student centred and based on individual needs. I use a variety of strategies to support the student grasp and then master the concepts of the qualification. The use of retrieval practice helps embed the knowledge into long term memory. Learning only takes places when there is a change in long term memory and the strategies I used aid later retention and identify the gaps in knowledge.

I have taught at an outstanding school for the past 6 years. In this time I have taught hundreds of students, this experience has really made me understand how students learn best. Every student is different and it is this difference in needs where tutors can really make a change to a students learning. Having tutored for the past 5 years, running both 1-2-1 sessions and small group sessions, all students from KS2 to KS4 have been able to achieve the grades they wanted. Subjects that I have tutored are KS2 English and Maths as well as the 11+. At GCSE I have tutored Maths and Science. I am able to tutor online or in person for 1-2-1 or small group sessions, I charge £30 an hour. Outstanding teacher for 6 years. Tutored 1-2-1 and group sessions for 5 years. Tutored KS2 Maths, English and 11+ Tutored KS4 Maths and Science DBS certificate Every student is different. The way to get a student to reply succeed is to get them to enjoy the subject. Enjoying the subject comes down to finding wins for the student, and building on knowledge that they know already.
