I am a highly-qualified former Assistant Head Teacher with responsibility for Special Needs and Dyslexia, and Head of English Faculty at a number of outstanding schools. I am DBS checked and I have current working knowledge of classroom practice and GCSE and A-level specs. I have delivered individualised private tuition for several years with outstanding results, developing excellent and motivating relationships with my students.
I have written numerous courses for the delivery of KS3, GCSE and A-Level English Language and Literature. I've also worked in junior school classrooms and have tutored 1-1 for the last decade, including to non-native speakers of English who are both youngsters and adult learners.
The pandemic has led me to move all tutoring online, although I am looking forward to being able once again to work face-to-face with many of my current students. Naturally, the present uncertainty in assessment procedures in schools makes flexibility on my part paramount, and I regularly support parents to liaise with school so that students gain maximum support from my input. I also have worked extensively with a number of students at university, providing Literature candidates with personal tutoring in the absence of focused provision from their universities, and supporting the writing of assignments in a variety of disciplines including Sports Studies and Psychology, as well as English Literature.
I love working with students, building on an excellent relationship to motivate and tailor schemes of work to their individual needs and anxieties. Self-belief and the confidence to ask questions if they don't understand enables students to make excellent progress and they are challenged to push their knowledge and understanding within an examination/assessment context.

Hi, I'm Jen. I offer 1-1 tuition to children and young people from level 1 to 3 in drama and English. I aim to build self-confidence and take the fear out of learning. I’m friendly, patient and kind. I'm an emerging actor, having just graduated as a mature student from the University of Worcester with an Integrated Masters in MTheatre Touring Theatre, Drama and performance. I specialise in devising, improvisation and theatre in education workshops, helping the creative mind to develop and in turn, gain confidence in other areas of their education. I also have experience of working with children, having completed the nationally recognised BTEC National Certificate in Early Years Teaching Assistant course. My son was diagnosed with dyslexia and dyspraxia when he was 8-years-old and as a result, I made a point of learning all I could about SEN as part of my TA qualification. I understand how hard and frustrating it can be at school for children with special educational needs and just how much of a worry it can be as a parent.

Home tutoring over a digital platform can be a great way to boost your child's confidence and ability whilst away from their usual classroom environment. I am offering tutoring online for primary school pupils or children of an older age who need a confidence boost for when they return to school. I use a digital learning environment to my advantage to make the sessions interactive and fun. I use Zoom as standard, but I am happy to adapt to other platforms that parents feel comfortable with. I can help children with home learning tasks they have been set or additional teaching to assist with any areas they would like additional support with. By building trust and confidence, I am able to guide children through more challenging work without the fear of failure. Over the years, I have built up a range of teaching strategies and resources to support children's learning that suits the individual. By taking the time to find out what the child's goals and motivations are, I can then tailor the lessons to suit their individual interests. I am calm, patient and encouraging teacher who praises often using positive behaviour reinforcement throughout the lessons.

My main aim is to create confident geographers who enjoy the subject. I use creative resources and a friendly supportive approach, to engage students in the subject and instil a love of learning. This, as well as exam practice, is the key to making progress and higher grades.
I have gathered a lot of experience in my time as head of geography, head of house and an examiner team leader for the AQA exam board. It is these broad experiences, and my continuing professional development, that will help your child reach their potential and be successful in geography.

I have a ‘can do’ attitude and know that with a flexible approach all students can make progress. Developing confidence is a key to success. Having an open mind-set and encouraging the student to try tasks in different ways, modelling what successful writing looks like, scaffolding reading comprehension to build skills and encouraging thought processing through speech are all part of the teaching process. Helping a child who struggles with English to achieve a 4 at GCSE is just as rewarding as seeing a very capable A Level student achieve an A* and get into their first- choice university. With over 30 years teaching experience in the UK, internationally and most recently at a British boarding school in China, I have a working knowledge of the different examination boards syllabi and am currently registered with one of the leading GCSE examination boards as a senior examiner. This enables me to take students through a step-by-step process of meeting the success criteria for GCSE and A Level. Currently, I live in rural England where I have become adept at teaching online. I love countryside walks, cats, English tea, reading and international travel.

Hi, my name is Sophie. I have recently completed a Masters in History at Royal Holloway University with distinction. Before this I attained a Bachelors in History and Economics with first-class honours from Manchester University.
As well as History and Economics I am also well equipped to teach English. I have an A-Level in English Literature and extensive experience in journalism and creative writing. Throughout my education I have also developed a keen understanding of Politics and can tutor Politics up to A-Level.
I am passionate about making learning fun, I believe the best results come when students look forward to learning. My approach to teaching is flexible; I employ a wide variety of teaching methods tailored to students' different needs and skills, as well as the type of assessments they are building up to. I especially encourage background and extra reading.
I can also help students develop their writing and formal communication skills. This is especially important in essay based subjects like History and English, but I can also help students write UCAS or job applications.
