Hi I am Cara Montiel. I have been teaching for 5 years with experience in private and state education. I have a BSc Hons in Biomedical science. My specialism is within Biology. However, I teach Biology, Chemistry and Physics up to KS4 level within the AQA specification. I trained as a teacher at the Institute of Education at University College London. I found growing up that the subjects I enjoyed the most were not necessarily to subjects I was most interested in. Rather they were the lessons conducted by teachers who whole-heartedly enjoyed their work and let that shine in their lessons. This is something I take into consideration every day as an educator. Any student can learn in a subject if a lesson is enjoyable and well planned with their success in mind. Giving a learner opportunities to shine builds confidence and is every bit as important in achieving success. In terms of pedagogy I utilise a variety of techniques bespoke to the learner. I use evidence informed and creative teaching practices in my day to day teaching to assess progress in every lesson. I make use of techniques such as retrieval practice, interleaving, and dual coding to reduce the "forgetting curve" and to diminish the cognitive load on the learner. I like to vary my lesson structure and assessment process to ensure that the format does not become stale for the learner. Depending on learner preference I can teach in different formats, utilising forms of digital media and assessment software e.g. Microsoft Forms quizzes, Carousel Learning, Nearpod, Exam Pro, and interactive whiteboards. I want to benefit my students as much as possible, so am open to recommendations from students and parents provided. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions, or would like to schedule a lesson.

I have been tutoring on and off since 2013, where as an A-level student I was tutoring GCSE Maths students on the Level 3/4 boundary. All Students who attended all their lessons managed to achieve at least their target grade of at least a Level 4. I have since tutored A-level Mathematics and Physics students on the A/B grade boundary to successfully achieve their target grades. My relatable approach to the tutoring process allows for students to understand interesting key ideas without experiencing the boredom that occurs in the school classroom. Some further concepts will be often be explained to allow for easier ideas to be more convincingly understood. I will often explain why it is that a certain physical or mathematical law exists, or try to let the student figure out why themselves, rather than simply providing information to be remembered for the final exam. This has been proven to aid in memory retention.

Hi, I`m Rob, a final year Bachelor of Mathematics student at the University of Warwick on track to achieve a first. I enjoy sharing my passion for mathematics with my students and to help them overcome areas of maths that they find especially difficult. In person I like to adapt my teaching style to the student. I prefer to teach actively using past paper questions because I find that my students learn best when solving problems themselves, with my guidance and encouragement.
