I am very pleased to offer lessons that are enjoyable, challenging and rewarding. I have been tutoring since 2007 and have been fortunate enough to tutor students from primary School age all the way up to further education. Although having a specialist interest in History I mainly work with young people preparing for the 11+ exam or Common Entrance papers.

For seventeen years I had been employed as the Head of Design and Technology at Maidstone Grammar School, I left to live in East Sussex. I am both a highly experienced Head of Department and successful classroom teacher. I have successfully taught pupils across KS3, KS4 (GCSE), and KS5 (A level.) I have delivered and planned lessons across a broad range of subject areas using a wide variety of teaching methods and techniques. I have been judged as an outstanding classroom teacher for most of my performance appraisal lesson observations. For my most recent set of GCSE results at Maidstone Grammar School, where we were in the top 10% of progress made for the country; we achieved just under 60% for level 7 and above. I have also taught many pupils who have achieved excellent results in A level DT: Product Design. I have supported many pupils in the production of Design Portfolios for university application. I have a wide range of expertise in teaching both GCSE and A level; with both Edexcel and AQA exam boards. I look forward to supporting and helping your child in their learning and academic success in DT.

I am an experienced pianist, teaching students for over 5 years from beginner all the way up to grade 8. At the age of 18, I received an offer to study at the Royal Academy of Music in London but instead chose to pursue a career in Engineering. I have a deep passion for classical music and enjoy performing music from composers such as Rachmaninoff, Beethoven and Chopin. I have completed and achieved distinction in my ABRSM performance diploma alongside participating in various piano competitions around the South of England. Although I am primarily a classical pianist, I have do also enjoy teaching contemporary styles of piano including pop and jazz or film music. I believe the secret to becoming a competent pianist is to develop the fundamentals and this is what I mostly focus on with my students which has enabled great success in the past. Despite this, I always tailor my approach to student's individual needs and am constantly seeking to ensure that they are enjoying their piano playing while making the most improvement possible. Here is a video of me performing Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata 3rd Movement: https://youtu.be/n8ate146vGI The fundamentals of piano playing include: Technique Sight reading Music Theory Memorisation Interpretation All of which I will teach to my students. No matter what level you are, there is always room for improvement =)

Having retired after over thirty years of teaching, I now tutor and enjoy helping pupils reach their full potential. I specialise in the teaching of Maths and English in KS2 and KS3. However, I am also qualified to teach pupils with specific learning difficulties, such as dyslexia, and with older individuals, this often involves helping them develop efficient revision and exam techniques, suited to their personal learning style. I have a gentle, caring approach, and teach in a manner where pupils quickly see progress and are able to develop the skills and confidence needed to succeed.

I am a dedicated , proactive teacher with good humour and great compassion. My teaching career spans across all ages from 5 years to adults and I can honestly say that I enjoy all ages and abilities because my motivation is to meet the learner's need. For some it will be improving basic literacy and numeracy and perhaps developing coping strategies like confidence and self-esteem whilst other learners may lack the discipline or study skills to reach their academic goals. My experience ranges from teaching Primary Curriculum up to 'A' Level and I have years of experience in exam preparation. Most recently I have taught learners with learning, physical and developmental disabilities, behavioural , emotional and communication needs which offers tremendous satisfaction. I continue to keep up to date with effective strategies to support outcomes and remove barriers which may hold up learning. My qualification and knowledge in teaching English as a foreign language will support all English teaching and I am able to adapt the delivery to support EAL learners. Please get in touch to discuss any learning needs or preferences in learning styles you have and we can decide the best way forward.
